Program Educational Objectives

The aim of this program is to produce:

  1. Graduates that have broad knowledge and demonstrate competency in technical skills and problem solving to work in the field of medical laboratory technology.
  2. Graduates that are involved in self-improvement and continuous professional development.
  3. Graduates that practice professional work ethics in medical laboratory service for the community.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Acquire knowledge and understanding of theory in medical laboratory science that is appropriate as a medical laboratory technologist.
  2. Use medical laboratory science knowledge and understanding to solve common problems in producing accurate test results.
  3. Perform medical laboratory procedures competently according to the standard requirement. 
  4. Communicate effectively to relay information to patients, peers, healthcare professionals and all stakeholders.
  5. Use various digital applications to seek and process data related to the field of medical laboratory technology.
  6. Demonstrate leadership, interpersonal and social skills in performing responsibilities as a medical laboratory technologist.
  7. Use individual skills for future continuous education aimed at self and career development.
  8. Adhere to professional ethics in the work environment at medical laboratories that contribute to the well-being of society.

Program Structure

Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology is offered as three year full time program. Course contents are divided equally between academic and clinical components. The academic components include lectures, tutorials, seminars and demonstrations sessions and the clinical components include the clinical practice. The clinical placements are mainly in the Laboratories Medical Division and other laboratories in University Malaya Medical Centre.

Credit requirement for the award of the Diploma = 98 credits
CGPA requirement for the award of the Diploma = Above 2.0

Clinical Posting Assessment

Clinical posting will be assessed continuously. The continuous element will enable problems to be identified and rectified at an early stage. This will enable the student to build confidence within a safe learning environment. Student’s performance on clinical posting will be graded based on the assessment.

  • Programe Fees
    • RM45,000.00 (RM7,500.00 per semester)
    • Fees are inclusive of course fees, hostels, transportation and facilities.
    • Students may apply for PTPTN loan.
