Program Educational Objectives


The Diploma in Nursing, will produce nurses who are:

  • knowledgeable and skilful in nursing profession in-line with the health care requirement.
  • able to communicate effectively and demonstrate good  leadership within the organization.
  • capable in solving health care problems systematically and ethically through sustainable approach.
  • able to realize the need of lifelong learning for career development.

Program Learning Outcomes


At the end of this program, students will be able to:

  • acquire and apply knowledge of health sciences, behavioural sciences and nursing sciences in nursing profession.
  • demonstrate safe and comprehensive skills in nursing profession.
  • provide a holistic care using systematic nursing process approach in health care system.
  • communicate effectively in verbal and written form with client, health care provider, other professionals and community.

  • demonstrate professional commitment and ethical behaviour in line with the nursing code of professional conduct.

Program Structure


Diploma in Nursing is offered as  three year full time program. Course contents are divided equally between academic and clinical components. The academic components include lectures, tutorials, seminars and demonstrations sessions and the clinical components include the clinical practice. The clinical placements are mainly in the various wards and clinics in the University Malaya Medical Centre. For the Community Health Nursing, students will be placed in the selected health clinics in Klang Valley.

Credit System and Values


Credit requirement for the award of the Diploma = 107 credits
CGPA requirement for the award of the Diploma = Above 2.0

  • Microbiology and Parasitology
  • Psychology, Self-Development and Professionalism in Nursing and Communication and Counseling in Nursing
  • Fundamentals of Nursing
  • English For Health Sciences
  • Pharmacology in Nursing
  • Medical and Surgical Nursing
  • Clinical Practice

Year 2

  • Medical and Surgical Nursing
  • Sociology
  • Ethic in Health Care or Malaysian Health System
  • Basic Entrepreneurship
  • Obstetric and Gynaecology Nursing
  • Clinical Practice
  • Research and Statistic in Nursing

Year 3

  • Medical and Surgical Nursing
  • Community Health Nursing and Gerontology
  • Research Proposal
  • Community Service
  • Management and Medico-legal in Nursing
  • Clinical Practice and Internship

Clinical Posting Assessment

Clinical posting will be assessed continuously. The continuous element will enable problems to be identified and rectified at an early stage. This will enable the student to build confidence within a safe learning environment. Student’s performance on clinical posting will be graded based on the assessment.

Program Fees


  • Program Fees
    • RM45,000.00 (RM7,500.00 per semester)
    • Fees are inclusive of course fees, hostels, transportation and facilities.
    • Students may apply for PTPTN loan.
