Introduction
The Department of Dietetics is a clinical support unit that provides medical nutrition therapy services to patients and staff as its core activity. Medical Nutrition Therapy is a combination therapy of nutritional interventions that includes nutritional science, medicine and behavioral science to have a positive impact on the health and well -being of patients.
In addition, the service also includes food status assessment and dietary counseling and/or special diet therapy to treat and manage the disease based on the patient''s condition.
Studies show that optimal medical nutritional therapy gives good results in dealing with disease and preventing complications, thus savings high cost of medical services.
In addition, to meet the needs of food care based on Medical Nutrition Therapy, the Unit Sajian has been placed under the Department of Dietetics since 15 January 2017 as an entity responsible for overseeing the quality of food supply services provided to patients treated at the University of Malaya Medical Center.
