Introduction
Otorhinolaryngology Department is located at Block P in the Faculty of Medicine University of Malaya. Together with the establishment of University of Malaya, this department was among the earliest otorhinolaryngology specialty developed in Malaysia. Our clinic and ward are located in the University Malaya Medical Center building which is a teaching hospital serving the needs of patients care, and teaching for the undergraduate and postgraduate students. Besides the regular outpatient clinic and inpatients services providing for the care of ear, nose and throat, research and management of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) was given lots of importance to make the public and the medical fraternity aware of this disease which is highly prevalent in Malaysia.

Services
The Department of Otorhinolaryngology provides diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitative services through its outpatient, inpatient, and specialized units to provide collaborative care.
Detail Services
Outpatient and Specialized Clinics
The clinic is open to follow-up and walk-in patients (new cases) follow normal office hours from Monday to Friday.

Audiology Unit
The Audiology Unit of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, University Malaya Medical Centre provides comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology services to diverse inpatient and outpatient population ranging in age from babies to geriatrics. The services provided include but not limited to as the following:-
Laryngology and Voice Disorders Unit
This specialised unit offers comprehensive care with regards to management of patients with voice and phonatory disorders such as common vocal folds lesions like vocal nodules, cysts, polyps, and laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). Patients will be assessed using rigid and flexible endoscopy as well as digital voice recordings for playback and analysis.
Cochlear Implant Unit
This unit is run by a team of cochlear implant experts. Patients referred are investigated and assessed the suitability for cochlear implantation. Suitable patients for the procedure are organised in all relevant aspects in preparation for the procedure and also post-operative follow-up and rehabilitation.
Balance Centre
This centre investigates and treats patients with vestibular disorders. Patients are referred from ENT clinic and other clinics within and outside the hospital. It is equipped with Computerised Dynamic Posturography, which is a one of its kind mode of investigation in the country as well as electronystagmography (ENG) with caloric stimulation.
Allergy and Immunotherapy Centre
This centre is a one stop centre for allergy related conditions whereby allergy testing, counselling and therapy is conducted. Patients are referred from ENT, Paediatric, Dermatology, and Respiratory and outside clinics for the above services. This centre is currently managed by qualified otolaryngologists and staff with specialised training in allergy.
Elective and Emergency Surgery
Elective surgeries shall be performed as schedule unless in emergency situation. Recent equipments utilize include radiofrequency surgical tools, powered instruments (microdebrider), latest carbon dioxide (CO2) laser with surgitouch and robotic manipulator, high-speed otology drill, and image guided surgery.
Day Care Surgery
Amongst cases handled in Day Care Surgery include myringotomy and grommet insertion, excision/biopsy of head and neck lump or growth, foreign body removal, endoscopic sinus surgery, reduction of nasal bones fractures, and myringoplasty.
