Department of Public Health


The Department of Public Health is responsible for enhancing health literacy by applying disease prevention skills and analysing the needs of the PPUM community, including health, safety, and occupational environment aspects, in order to inform top management for improvement purposes.

  1. Applying evidence-based knowledge to protect health, prevent diseases, promote health, and enhance the well-being of the PPUM community and its surroundings.
  2. Protecting the UMMC community from foodborne illnesses and ensuring the safety of food sold on hospital premises.
  3. Conducting surveillance and control of infectious diseases among UMMC staff.
  4. Assessing and monitoring non-communicable disease risk factors within the UMMC community.
  5. Ensuring compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and related regulations pertaining to workplace safety and health.
  6. Continuously managing, monitoring, and improving occupational health and safety aspects as well as environmental aspects at UMMC in accordance with relevant acts, regulations, and industry standards.
