COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMME 2007
Date : 22th September 2007
Venue : Rumah Nur Hikmah in Kajang and Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home
On 22nd September 2007, Pharmacy Society of Universiti Malaya has organised a community service programme with the aims of helping children who are less fortunate, improve the awareness among students, and foster a better relationship among students and between students and the society. The theme, accordingly, was ‘We Care, We Share, We Give’.
A total number of 60 participants were divided into two groups as there are two orphanages that we visited simultaneously on the same day. They were Rumah Nur Hikmah in Kajang and Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home, here in Petaling Jaya. As we arrived at the respective places, we had a very warm welcome from the person-in-charge and all the children.
The event started with gotong-royong to clean the place. It continued with ‘ice-breaking’ to get to know the shy children and some interaction games. Following it was a multimedia presentation created exclusively for the programme. There was also a movie screening of the popular animation, Ratatouille. All present were treated with a performance called ‘Dwarfs’ from some of the participants. After that, there was a health talk by one of the senior student, Miss Ng Siew Yen. She explained about the common illness children commonly down with for them to be more aware of their own health.
Towards evening, the participants gathered to clear up the place. Then it was the time to go back. We left with heavy hearts, but at the same time, everyone had enjoyed their day and brought back a memorable experience. The programme has achieved its objectives and we all learned a lot from it.
haha... seronoknya...
