COMMONWEALTH PHARMACEUTICAL ASSOCIATION-MPS PHARMACY SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE 2007

During the 9th Cientific Conference, jointly organised by the Commonwealth Pharmaceutical Association (CPA) and Malaysia Pharmaceutical Society (MPS), the Pharmacy Society of UM has taken part in a number of activities and events throughout the conference.

On the 2nd of August, there was a Welcome Dinner held at the Park Royal Hotel. A ‘Kompang’ group comprising 9 students as well as the ‘Silat Cekak Hanafi’ team of 10 members were sent to present a welcoming act and perform their routines respectively.

Meanwhile, on the 4th of August, an off-site Farewell Dinner was held at the Saloma Theatre Restaurant. Prior to the dinner, a pre-dinner entertainment session was held outside the restaurant. Pharmacy students of UM opened up two booths; one doing a  demonstration on how to play ‘Congkak’, and the other showing their expertise in writing Chinese calligraphy. During the dinner itself, a troupe of 12 dancers graced the stage by performing a traditional dance from Borneo.

It was indeed an eye-opening experience to those who are involved as they are fortunate enough to meet pharmacists from other countries, especially the Commonwealth. It is hoped that in years to come, more students can be involved so that they can be exposed to more people of the same field as well as to gain a new and different experience.
