Straw Building Game
From the 25th to 27th of November 2007, 70 students from the USM School of Pharmacy were in UM for the UM-USM Interaction Program co-organized by the Pharmacy Society of UM and USM. The 3-day visit was filled with fun games and educational activities with the aim to promote interaction between participants from both universities. Most of the activities were held in Second Residential College where the USM participants resided during their visit. On the first day, after participants from both universities were divided into groups, a short ice-breaking session was conducted. This was followed by a treasure hunt and telematch contest between the groups. During the night, there was plenty of joy and laughter shared as more interaction games were carried out.
On the morning of second day, some of the USM and UM participants visited Hospital Selayang in . Some of the other participants on the other hand, were brought on a short visit to Rimba Ilmu in UM. During the afternoon, half of the participants from USM were joined by 3rd year and final year UM participants for clerkship discussion in our department. This was followed by a short presentation from each group with suggestions or comments from other participants. The clerkship discussion was truly beneficial for participants from both sides as it provided a rare opportunity to share our ideas, knowledge and experience together. A short closing ceremony was then carried out at night where the representatives from each university were invited to give a speech and exchange souvenirs.
On the last day of their visit, the USM participants were brought on a guided tour of the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) as well as the facilities in the Department of Pharmacy. Among the facilities visited include the pilot plant and research labs. In the afternoon, another half of the participants had their clerkship discussion in the department. By evening, the visit came to and end as participants from USM departed home. In conclusion, the event reached its aim as many new friends were made and experiences were shared between the participants. Many thanks to the participants from UM as well as all staff and lecturers involved in making this program a success. The USM participants enjoyed their visit here and express their utmost gratitude and appreciation for our co-operation. Hopefully there will be more activities like such in the future to strengthen the ties between the two universities.
