Career & Health Talk 2007

Venue: Dewan Jemerlang

Time: 3.00 pm. to 5.00pm

The Career & Health Talk organized by the Bureau of Academic & Intellectual was held on the 14th of September. This annual event took place at Dewan Jemerlang in the Faculty of Medicine. The highlight of this event every year is talks on the different fields of pharmacy from experienced guest speakers. This year we added a breath of fresh air to this event by not only having talks on career but also on health.

Our first speaker is Mr. Mohd Irwan Hashim who is a Senior Pharmacist at Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), Kuala Lumpur. His talk started with general ideas of being a hospital pharmacist and the scope of job that was involved. He also spoke with a great deal of enthusiasm about his pet project which is the INR Clinic.

The talk was then continued by the Petaling Jaya Area Manager of Caring Pharmacy, Mr. Ng Shih Siang. Mr. Ng tried his level best to open our minds to the various aspects of being a community pharmacist. He surely kept all of us in stitches with his humorous stories and witty remarks.

The third guest speaker for the day was a nutritional representative from Mead Johnson Nutritionals. Mr. Henry Lee delivered an informative talk on nutrition in pregnancy and lactation. He stressed on the important vitamins and minerals that are required during this crucial period of a women’s life as well as the general problems faced by expecting mothers.

The huge turnout of our students reflected the success of this educational event which was emceed by our very own second year student, Chuah Sim Mei. The students not only left with more awareness about the offerings of the various fields of pharmacy but were also enriched with the vast experiences of our guest speakers.
