Information technology have emerged, technology in educational hospital grows increasingly complex and requires new interpretation. As a new ways of thinking, the department is a central to provide the design, knowledge, material, process and resouce of information technology.

History

At the beginning of its establishment, it was known as the Unit. Initially, it was placed under the PTj Perkhidmatan (currently known as PTj Sumber Perkhidmatan), University Hospital. However, in September 1991, the Management decided to separate it from the PTj Perkhidmatan due to its extensive responsibilities. The new unit has been upgraded to the Responsibility Center and known as PTj Nadi IT.

The change of name had widened the functions of the responsibility center. Nadi IT's responsibilities is to cater all the UMMC's IT and computer related needs.

UMMC Infrastructure

UMMC infrastructure is the core for ICT services in UMMC. The UMMC network infrastructure consists of wired and wireless network. The whole infrastructure is using three tier architecture where the access and distributor is located on each building in UMMC and the core is located at the UMMC data center and DR center. This is to ensure fast, reliable and expandable network to support current and future infrastructure requirement.

The network infrastructure covers almost 90% of the building in UMMC to enable a fast and secure access to the ICT system in UMMC. However PTJ Nadi IT is planning to cover 100% of bulding in UMMC to be wired up by UMMC network including the Nursing Hostel and Nursery.

The UMMC network evolves from 100 fast Ethernet network into Gigabit Ethernet in 2003. All the backbone speed is at 1GB and 100mbps for the client PC. Recently, the UMMC network has been upgraded into 10GB Ethernet in 2009 and this has resulted in full 10GB running at the core switch and 1GB to the end user. Apart from the performance upgrade, the network security is implemented to ensure a safe and secure access is guaranteed to safeguard the system and applications in UMMC.

UMMC network is bridged to other institutions network such as UM, UMSC and eGnet.
